A fan made page that details key information for both painting, hobbying and playing the Sons of Horus in Warhammer, the Horus Heresy, Age of Darkness third edition
Why should I play The Sons of Horus?
The Sons of Horus have many draws to play them, in particularly the three big ones are the lore, modeling and kitbash opportunities along with the gameplay.
Lore wise the Sons of Horus turn up in basically every major conflict and as such have a plethora of characters to enjoy and novels to read, being the poster boys of the setting does have its advantages.
This poster boy status translates to the models too, with SOH having the largest range of unique legion specific sculpts in Horus Heresy, majority of these will be just character sculpts, but this provides a good base for kit bashing your own consuls, and helpfully the entirety of the chaos space marines 40k line is plastered with eyes of Horus, and as one of the legions who fell to chaos swiftly after the heresy kicked off its a great place to get bits or just whole models to make your army look that little bit more traitorous
Gameplay wise the Sons of Horus are an all rounder legion, their trait buffs short ranged shooting and melee units, allowing you to make more efficient volley fire on the way into melee and when you get charged, with a large focus on leadership buffs too with their abundance of prime slots and the unique dark emissary consul. If you want a legion who are reliable and reward players for having strong fundamental skills to playing the game, these are your boys.
